Challenges

Increasing land scarcity suitable for solar forces solar development to compete with agricultural production for land use. Agrivoltaics is the compromise that the solar industry needs, as utility-scale solar project approval rates have steadily declined due to community opposition to solar development taking over farmland. Solar projects that incorporate agrivoltaics will have higher chances of being approved, as the solar regulatory environment is projected to only become more restrictive. With agrivoltaics set to become the standard for the global solar industry, developers will need tools designed to optimize agrivoltaics system designs that can adapt to a range of policy, geographical, and economic constraints.

Fundusol is here to provide this essential verification, offering expert guidance and detailed analysis to help farmers and developers navigate these complexities and achieve successful, sustainable agrivoltaic projects.

How Our Models Work

We simulate a developer’s baseline agrivoltaic system by combining the historical weather data at the site with project-specific parameters provided by the developer and landowner.

We predict this system’s yearly solar output and agricultural production, utilizing our proprietary physics-based machine learning models that predict the irradiance, temperature, relative humidity, and biomass within the system.

We leverage our financial model to predict the system’s Net Present Value (NPV), comprehensively modeling capital and operating expenditures as well as revenue streams specific to the project’s unique scope and geography to project yearly net cash flow.

Using genomic optimization, we simulate millions of different system configurations, ultimately arriving at the design that conveys the highest possible NPV.

By predicting agricultural and solar performance under a system before it’s installed, Fundusol can iterate over millions of possible systems to choose the best design for any project, anywhere. We can even recommend an optimum growing schedule for crops as well as choosing the best system. Want to learn more? Schedule a free software demo with our founders today!
